What do dark circles feel like with tear trough hollows?

Tear trough hollows are a depression running from the inner corner of the eye along the lower eyelid. Light can collect differently in this groove, making the skin look brown, grey, or bluish even when the surface is smooth.

Many people notice a normal skin texture with no scaling, rash, or tenderness. The hollow may look deeper when you are tired, under strong overhead lighting, or when the cheek loses some fullness. Pigment, visible blood vessels, thin under-eye skin, allergies, and rubbing can add to the shadow, so appearance alone cannot identify one cause.

Compare both sides in soft, natural light and note whether the colour changes when you gently stretch the skin. Avoid rubbing the eyelids, use a bland moisturiser if the area feels dry, and protect the face from sunlight with shade and sunscreen suitable for the eye area.

A dermatologist or qualified aesthetic clinician can examine the groove, surrounding pigment, vessels, and cheek contour. Treatment choices differ when the main issue is shadowing rather than pigment, so diagnosis should come before any lightening product or procedure.

Arrange medical assessment if the change is new and one-sided, follows an injury, or comes with swelling, pain, redness, discharge, vision change, or a new eyelid lump. Sudden swelling around the eye with breathing difficulty needs urgent emergency care.

Ask whether the darkness is mainly a shadow from the hollow, surface pigment, visible vessels, or a combination. You can also ask which products are safe near your eyes, whether allergies or rubbing are contributing, and what improvement a proposed treatment can realistically target.
