What Do Chapped Lips Feel Like With Actinic Cheilitis?

Most people with Actinic Cheilitis notice chapped lips that feel dry, tight, rough, scaly, sore, or persistently cracked. The lips may sting with food, wind, or lip products. The lower lip is often more affected, and the usual lip border may look less distinct than before.

Chapped Lips is a common presentation of Actinic Cheilitis. Repeated ultraviolet exposure can cause persistent roughness and scaling rather than a short-lived episode of dryness. Ordinary irritation, dehydration, allergy, infection, or lip licking can also cause chapping, so lasting changes deserve an examination.

Arrange a medical assessment when chapping does not settle, repeatedly returns in the same area, or leaves a persistent scale, thick patch, sore, crust, or bleeding spot. Seek prompt care for a non-healing area or a change that is enlarging or becoming more painful.
