What does a breast lump feel like with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer?

Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer has cells with receptors that respond to hormones such as oestrogen or progesterone. This feature is found through laboratory testing of a tissue sample, not by feeling the breast. A lump may be painless or tender, mobile or less mobile, and benign breast changes can have similar features.

Make an appointment to assess any new or persistent lump. Note when it appeared, where it is, and any changes in the skin, nipple or armpit. A clinician may use examination and diagnostic imaging, followed by biopsy when needed. If cancer is diagnosed, ask how hormone receptor results influence treatment and whether additional testing is planned.
