What does a breast lump feel like with fibroadenoma?

Fibroadenomas are solid breast growths made from glandular and connective tissue. They can have a well-defined edge and may slide under the fingers, which is why they are sometimes described as mobile. They may be painless, although tenderness can occur. Their feel can overlap with other breast changes, and a hands-on check cannot establish the diagnosis.

Record when you noticed the lump, its position, and whether its size or tenderness changes. Book an assessment for any new lump, even if it feels smooth or mobile. The clinician may suggest breast imaging and, depending on the findings, a tissue sample. Keep appointments that monitor a known fibroadenoma, because a change in size or character deserves review.

Arrange prompt care if the lump grows quickly, becomes fixed, or is accompanied by skin puckering, redness, nipple inversion, unusual discharge, or an armpit swelling. Sudden pain with fever or a hot, red breast also needs prompt attention. These symptoms do not identify one cause, but they should not be assessed by touch alone.
