What Does a Bleeding Mole Feel Like With Pyogenic Granuloma?

A pyogenic granuloma is a small, rapidly appearing skin growth made of fragile blood vessels. It may look bright red, pink or purple, sit on a narrow base, and bleed after clothing, scratching or light contact. The surface can become crusted, and the surrounding skin may feel sore rather than deeply painful.

Despite its name, this growth is not the same as a pus-filled infection. A clinician may still need to examine it because other lesions can resemble it, including some skin cancers.

Press clean gauze firmly against the spot until bleeding settles, then cover it with a non-stick dressing. Keep fingernails, jewellery and tight clothing away from it. Do not squeeze, tie off or remove the growth yourself. Arrange an appointment if it keeps bleeding, enlarges quickly or interferes with daily activities.

Get urgent help for bleeding that continues despite sustained pressure, signs of infection such as spreading redness and fever, or dizziness after blood loss. A prompt examination is appropriate for a new bleeding growth, uncertain diagnosis or lesion that repeatedly returns after crusting.
