What does bleeding between periods feel like with endometrial polyps?

A polyp is a small growth from the lining of the uterus. Because its surface can be delicate, bleeding may occur outside your expected period or after sexual activity. You may notice a few spots when wiping, staining on underwear, or a flow that resembles a light period. Some people have no pain; others feel mild cramping or pelvic pressure. The colour and amount can change from one episode to the next.

Bleeding between periods has several possible explanations, including hormonal changes, infection, medication effects, pregnancy-related causes, and other changes in the uterus or cervix. The symptom cannot identify a polyp by feel alone.

Record when the bleeding starts, how long it lasts, whether it follows sex, and whether cramps or unusual discharge occur. If pregnancy is possible, mention that when arranging care. A clinician may ask about your cycle and examine the cervix; an ultrasound or another test may be used to look at the uterine lining. Do not insert products or take hormone medicine to control the bleeding without advice.

Arrange a medical assessment for new, repeated, or unexplained bleeding between periods. Seek urgent help if bleeding is heavy, you feel faint or weak, have severe or worsening pelvic pain, fever, or are pregnant or could be pregnant. Emergency symptoms need prompt attention even when the bleeding looks light.
