Cervical dysplasia means abnormal cells on the surface of the cervix. It often causes no noticeable sensation, but the cervix may bleed with contact in some people. Bleeding can be brief or continue as staining, and may occur with discharge or discomfort during sex. Similar bleeding can result from vaginal dryness, infection, a cervical polyp, hormonal changes, or irritation. The appearance of blood cannot show whether dysplasia is present or how advanced any cell change may be.
