Short answer

Arch Pain is a very common presentation of Flat Feet, often felt as aching, strain, or burning along the inner arch after standing or walking.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Common sensation
Aching, pulling, or burning along the inner arch
Often aggravated by
Prolonged standing, walking, and hard surfaces

What the sensation may mean

When the foot arch lowers under load, tissues along the sole and inner side of the foot may work harder to support your weight. You may notice a tired, pulling feeling that builds through the day, tenderness when pressing the arch, or discomfort when walking barefoot on hard surfaces. Some people feel pain near the heel or inside of the ankle as well. The pattern can vary with activity, footwear, body position, and how long you have had symptoms. Arch pain has several possible explanations, so its presence alone cannot identify the cause.

What you can try

Reduce activities that clearly increase the pain for a short period, while keeping gentle movement within comfort. Supportive shoes with a firm, comfortable sole may reduce strain; a clinician can advise whether an orthotic is suitable for your foot. Gentle calf and foot exercises may help build tolerance, but stop if they sharply increase symptoms. Note when the pain appears, whether one or both feet are affected, and whether swelling or numbness occurs. A physiotherapist or doctor can examine your walking pattern and foot alignment.

When to seek care

Arrange an assessment if pain persists, keeps returning, limits walking, or is getting worse despite reducing aggravating activity. Seek prompt medical attention after an injury if you cannot bear weight, or if the foot becomes markedly swollen, red, hot, numb, or unusually pale. Sudden severe pain, weakness, or a new change in balance also deserves urgent review.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether your arch shape and walking mechanics are contributing, which exercises fit your symptoms, and how long to try supportive footwear before reassessment. You can also ask what signs would suggest another foot or ankle problem.

Questions people ask

Can flat feet cause arch pain without swelling?

Yes. Mechanical strain can cause aching or tenderness without visible swelling, although persistent or worsening symptoms should be assessed.

Should I stop walking completely?

Usually, gentle activity within comfort is reasonable, but reduce movements that clearly worsen the pain and seek advice if walking becomes difficult.
