What Does Acne Scar Laser Treatment Treat?

Acne scar laser treatment targets selected acne-scar texture and colour changes, especially some atrophic scars. Laser energy can create controlled skin effects that encourage remodelling or smooth uneven surface texture, depending on the device and settings. It is planned around scar type, skin tone, active acne, and healing history.

Atrophic scars are depressed scars caused by lost support beneath the skin. Some shallow or uneven depressed scars may improve with fractional laser approaches, while a CO2 laser may be considered when stronger resurfacing is appropriate. Rolling, boxcar, and ice-pick patterns do not respond identically, so one technique may not suit every scar on the same face.

Laser treatment does not remove active acne, raised scars, or every dark mark. A clinician may first control new breakouts and review medicines such as isotretinoin therapy. Subcision may be considered for scars tethered by fibrous bands, sometimes as part of a staged plan rather than a replacement for resurfacing.
