The discomfort is often felt behind the breastbone or in the upper abdomen. It may be burning, aching, or a rising pressure, and can leave a sour taste when stomach contents move towards the throat. Symptoms may become more noticeable after a large meal, when bending over, or when lying down. Some people also notice belching, nausea, hoarseness, or a cough.
