What causes thigh pain?

Short answer
Thigh pain can come from a muscle strain, bruising, hip or back problem, nerve irritation, or bone stress.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the pain pattern can suggest
Pain after sprinting, stretching, or lifting may involve a muscle strain or hamstring strain, especially at the back of the thigh. A direct knock can cause a muscle contusion with tenderness or bruising. Hip osteoarthritis may send aching into the front or side of the thigh, sometimes with stiffness after rest. Burning, tingling, or electric pain can reflect nerve irritation from the back or hip. Deep, focused pain that worsens with impact needs assessment for a bone problem such as a stress fracture. Swelling, skin colour change, weakness, fever, and the exact location add useful clues.
What to do now
For mild pain after activity, pause the provoking exercise, use comfortable movement, and return gradually as symptoms settle. Avoid deep massage over a fresh bruise or forcing a painful stretch. Arrange assessment if pain persists, keeps recurring, changes your walking, or prevents normal activity. A clinician may examine the hip, back, muscles, nerves, and circulation; treatment could include an individually paced rehabilitation plan. When to seek care urgently
Seek urgent care for sudden thigh swelling with warmth or colour change, chest pain or breathlessness, a cold or pale foot, inability to bear weight, severe pain after injury, or new leg weakness. Fever with a hot, swollen area also needs prompt medical attention.

No. Muscle problems are common, but nerve, joint, bone, and circulation-related causes can produce thigh pain too.
