Short answer

A nosebleed usually starts when delicate blood vessels inside the nose become dry, irritated, or injured.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Pressure point
Pinch the soft nose continuously for ten to fifteen minutes

Common reasons for bleeding

Dry air, nose picking, forceful blowing, minor knocks, and frequent sneezing can damage the moist lining. Allergic rhinitis, a common cold, and sinusitis may cause inflammation, congestion, rubbing, or repeated blowing. Some medicines make bleeding easier, and high blood pressure can be associated with more troublesome bleeding. Most nosebleeds come from the front of the nose and stop with first aid, but repeated episodes deserve a review to identify irritation, medicine effects, or another cause.

What to do during a nosebleed

Sit upright, lean slightly forward, and breathe through your mouth. Pinch the soft part of the nose continuously for ten to fifteen minutes without checking early. Spit out blood rather than swallowing it. After it stops, avoid forceful blowing, picking, strenuous activity, and very hot drinks for a while. Moisturising nasal care may help dryness; ask a pharmacist or clinician which product suits you.

When to seek care

Seek urgent medical help if bleeding is heavy, follows a significant head or face injury, causes faintness or breathing difficulty, or does not stop after sustained pressure. Arrange an appointment for frequent nosebleeds, easy bruising, bleeding from other sites, or treatment with a medicine that affects clotting. A clinician may check your nose, blood pressure, medicines, and general health; nasal cautery can sometimes treat a repeatedly bleeding vessel.

Questions for your doctor

Could dryness, allergy, sinus symptoms, blood pressure, or a medicine be contributing? Should I use a nasal moisturiser? Would nasal cautery be suitable if the same spot keeps bleeding?

Ordered by verification status and how complete each clinic's public record is, then alphabetically. This is a directory listing, not a ranking — Zavis does not rate or recommend providers.

Questions people ask

Should I tilt my head back?

No. Leaning slightly forward lets blood leave the mouth instead of running down the throat.

Why do nosebleeds keep returning?

Dryness, allergies, irritation, repeated blowing, medicines, or a persistent fragile vessel can contribute.
