What are the treatment options for twin and multiple pregnancy?

Multiple pregnancy needs closer review because each baby may grow differently and the placenta arrangement can affect care. A Growth Scan checks growth, fluid and other features over time. Appointments may also assess blood pressure, symptoms, anaemia and signs of early labour. Treatment is not one fixed procedure: the team adapts surveillance and delivery planning to the type of twins or multiples and how the pregnancy progresses.

Attend scheduled antenatal appointments and report changes promptly. Ask which warning signs matter for your pregnancy, how activity and work may need to change, and when to arrange hospital and newborn support. Birth may be vaginal or by Caesarean Section; the decision considers the babies' positions, placentas, growth, gestation and your medical history. Discuss pain relief, who will be present and what may happen if the plan changes.

Seek urgent maternity advice for vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, regular contractions, severe headache, visual changes, sudden swelling, reduced or changed movements, or significant abdominal pain. Do not wait for the next appointment when symptoms are new or concerning. The maternity unit can tell you whether you need immediate examination.
