How measles usually presents
The illness commonly begins with fever and respiratory symptoms. Small spots may appear inside the mouth, followed by a blotchy rash that starts on the face or hairline and moves downwards. Swollen glands, tiredness and reduced appetite may also occur. A rash has many possible causes, so its appearance alone cannot confirm measles.
What to do if measles is possible
Contact a GP service before attending in person if you suspect measles, because the infection can spread easily. Mention recent exposure, travel, vaccination history and when the fever or rash began. Keep the person away from school, work and crowded settings until a clinician gives advice. Avoid sharing towels, cups or utensils, and encourage fluids.

Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, confusion, dehydration, severe headache, a seizure, or a child who is difficult to wake. Babies, pregnant people and anyone with reduced immunity need prompt clinical advice after possible exposure or symptoms.
