What Are the Symptoms of Lichen Planus?

The bumps may have fine white lines on their surface and can join into rough patches. Scratching may cause new lesions along irritated skin. Lichen planus can also affect the mouth as white lacy lines, sore areas, or erosions; the genitals may feel sore or itchy. Nail changes can include ridges, thinning, splitting, or lifting, while scalp involvement may cause scale or hair loss. The appearance varies, so an examination is useful.

Use a fragrance-free moisturiser and keep nails short to reduce damage from scratching. Avoid irritating soaps and mention mouth, genital, nail, or scalp symptoms during assessment.
