What are the symptoms of heat rash?

Short answer
Heat rash usually causes clusters of tiny red or skin-coloured bumps, prickling or itching, and irritation in sweaty, covered, or skin-fold areas.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How heat rash can look and feel
The rash may appear as fine bumps, small fluid-filled spots, or a red, rough patch. Common locations include the neck, upper chest, back, hairline, under the breasts, groin, and areas where skin rubs together. Prickling or stinging may become more noticeable after sweating, exercise, or time in a hot environment.
Heat rash often affects skin covered by tight or non-breathable clothing, but similar redness and bumps can have other causes. A widespread rash, marked pain, crusting, or symptoms that do not settle after cooling the skin deserve clinical assessment. Heavy sweating can also be related to hyperhidrosis and may need separate evaluation.
What to do at home
Move to a cooler environment, let the skin dry, and wear loose, breathable clothing. Use cool—not icy—compresses and avoid thick, fragranced products that can further block sweat ducts. Keep skin folds dry and reduce rubbing while the irritation settles.
Do not scratch or squeeze the bumps. A clinician or pharmacist may suggest an emollient or another topical treatment when appropriate; stronger anti-inflammatory products should be used only with suitable advice, especially on the face, groin, or skin folds.
When to seek care
Arrange medical advice if the rash keeps returning, spreads, becomes painful, produces pus, or does not improve after cooling and reducing sweating. Seek urgent care for fever, confusion, faintness, severe weakness, or signs of a serious heat illness. A baby, older adult, or person with a significant medical condition may need earlier assessment.
Questions for your doctor
Does the pattern fit heat rash or another skin rash? Could excessive sweating be contributing? Which soothing product is safe for this body area, and when would a topical corticosteroid be appropriate?
