What are the alternatives to cryotherapy for lesion removal?

Freezing is used for selected benign lesions and some viral growths, but a skin bump is not a diagnosis. Warts, plantar warts, molluscum contagiosum, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, and sun spots can look different and need different care. Some lesions should be sampled or removed in a way that preserves tissue for examination. Liquid nitrogen may be unsuitable when the diagnosis is uncertain, the site is delicate, or the lesion is deep or recurrent.

Have the lesion examined before choosing a removal method. Discuss observation for a harmless, stable lesion, topical treatment for a suitable viral or superficial problem, or a procedure that removes the growth directly. Ask about wound care, scarring, pigment change, recurrence, and whether tissue will be sent for examination. Do not pick, cut, or burn a lesion at home, especially on the face, genitals, hands, or feet.

Arrange prompt assessment for a bump that changes quickly, bleeds without clear injury, forms a persistent sore, becomes very painful, or does not heal. After removal, contact the clinic for spreading redness, pus, fever, escalating pain, or bleeding that does not settle with firm pressure. Urgent care is needed for severe swelling or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
