What should you know about Welch Allyn pediatric otoscope?

Children may have ear pain, fever, reduced hearing, tugging at the ear or discharge. An otoscope lets the clinician look for visible changes in the canal or behind the eardrum. A device view is one part of assessment; symptoms, age, examination findings and the child's general condition guide the next decision.

Keep your child close, explain the examination in simple words and bring a familiar toy if helpful. The clinician may ask the child to sit still while the ear is gently positioned for viewing. Avoid inserting cotton buds into the ear. Share any history of ear tubes, previous infections, hearing concerns, allergies or pain during touch.

Arrange prompt care for severe ear pain, discharge or blood, sudden hearing change, high fever, marked dizziness, or swelling around or behind the ear. Get urgent help if a child is unusually sleepy, confused, difficult to settle, or appears seriously unwell.
