What should you know about a Welch Allyn LED otoscope?

The clinician selects a suitable tip, gently positions it at the ear opening, and views the canal and eardrum under illumination. The examination can reveal wax, redness, swelling, fluid, discharge, or a visible change to the eardrum. LED lighting supports a clear view, but the result still depends on positioning and the condition of the canal.

An otoscope cannot measure hearing or settle every cause of tinnitus, dizziness, or ear pain. A clinician combines what is visible with your history and other checks.

Describe when the problem began and report fever, discharge, hearing change, recent swimming, injury, or previous ear procedures. Do not clean deep inside the ear with cotton buds. Stay still during the examination and tell the clinician if the ear is too tender. Children may need a slower approach during a Child Health Consultation.
