Wegener's Granulomatosis Skin Rash: What to Know

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis is an inflammatory blood-vessel condition that can affect several organs. Skin findings may include red or purple spots, bruised-looking areas, ulcers, or tender lumps, but their appearance varies. A rash is not enough to confirm this diagnosis.

Atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, drug rash, heat rash, intertrigo, psoriasis, ringworm, and scabies can also cause visible skin changes. Nose or sinus symptoms, cough, breathlessness, blood in urine, unusual fatigue, fever, or painful joints make a broader medical assessment especially important.

Arrange prompt review with a doctor if this condition is known, suspected, or mentioned in your medical history. Photograph changing lesions, record their onset and spread, and bring a full list of medicines and supplements. Do not stop prescribed immune treatment without the prescriber's advice.

A clinician may examine the skin and ask about nose, lung, kidney, eye, and joint symptoms. Testing is chosen from the examination and medical history; treatment should be directed at the confirmed cause rather than the rash's appearance alone.

Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing, coughing blood, sudden vision changes, severe eye pain, confusion, fainting, or rapidly worsening weakness. Get urgent assessment for rapidly spreading purple or dark areas, painful ulcers, fever, or reduced urine.
