Water bump on the skin: possible explanations

Clear fluid, a rough surface, a central white bead, redness, itch, and tenderness each suggest different possibilities. Heat and sweating can trigger [Heat Rash](/conditions/heat-rash/), while an inflamed hair follicle can cause [Folliculitis](/conditions/folliculitis/). Tiny firm pale bumps may be [Milia](/conditions/milia/). A bump is a symptom presentation, not a diagnosis; colour and location alone cannot identify its cause.

Cleanse gently, keep the area cool and dry, and pause new or fragranced products until the skin settles. Avoid picking, scraping, or puncturing it. Take a clear photograph if the appearance changes, and note whether it appears after heat, shaving, exercise, or a product.
