What should you know about water blisters on face?

A fluid-filled blister can follow irritation, an allergic reaction, sunburn, or an infection. Facial blisters may occur with contact dermatitis, chickenpox, or shingles, but appearance alone cannot confirm the cause. Burning or tingling, one-sided clusters, fever, itch, and a recent new product are useful details to report. The skin around the eyes deserves particular caution.

Leave the blister roof intact, wash gently with lukewarm water, and avoid fragranced products, makeup, friction, and direct sun on the area. Do not share towels or cosmetics, and wash your hands after touching the skin. A clinician may recommend treatment suited to the cause, including antiviral treatment when an infection is suspected.

Seek urgent medical advice if a blister is near the eye, vision changes, pain is severe, the rash follows one side of the face, or you feel unwell. Arrange a prompt review for rapidly spreading blisters, pus, increasing warmth, or extensive skin peeling. A baby, pregnant person, or someone with reduced immunity should seek advice early.
