What should you know about wart removal freeze?

A clinician applies a very cold agent to the wart and a small margin around it. The treated tissue can become pale during application, then tender, swollen, blistered, or crusted. The surface may shed gradually rather than disappear immediately, and more than one visit can be needed. The treatment is different from applying an unregulated cold object at home, which can damage healthy skin and make the diagnosis harder to assess.

Keep the area clean and dry according to the instructions you received. If a blister forms, do not deliberately puncture or peel it. Use only recommended pain relief or dressings, and reduce rubbing from shoes or clothing. Wash hands after touching the site and avoid sharing towels or nail equipment. Wait for the skin to settle before applying additional wart products unless your clinician gives a specific plan.

Get advice if pain becomes severe or keeps increasing, redness spreads, swelling worsens, or drainage smells unpleasant. Fever, red streaks, persistent numbness, or a darkening area require prompt assessment. Seek review if the lesion bleeds, changes in an unusual way, or does not behave like the expected treated wart. Foot treatment needs extra caution when sensation or circulation is reduced.
