What should you know about wart removal burn marks?

Freezing, acids, or other procedures can irritate the wart and nearby skin. The area may become red, swollen, blistered, crusted, or darker as the surface heals. A mark can also result when treatment touches healthy skin. Colour changes may be more noticeable in deeper skin tones and can outlast tenderness. A photograph and examination are more useful than judging the mark by colour alone.

Keep the area clean and follow the dressing instructions given for the procedure. Do not peel a blister roof, pick a crust, or apply household chemicals. Protect healing skin from friction and direct sun; once the surface has closed, ask whether a suitable sunscreen is appropriate. Avoid repeating treatment on the mark until the skin has recovered or a clinician has reviewed it. Note changes in pain, size, warmth, and drainage.

Seek medical advice when pain is increasing rather than easing, redness is spreading, warmth and swelling are growing, or yellow drainage develops. Prompt care is needed for fever, red streaks, tissue that becomes numb or black, or a wound that is not closing. Arrange review if the original spot keeps changing, bleeds without clear injury, or returns after treatment.

Ask whether the appearance fits normal healing, which products are safe on the area, when sun protection can start, and whether the original lesion should be examined again.
