Vitamin D and prostate cancer: what should you know?

Vitamin D helps regulate calcium and supports bone strength. A low level can occur with limited sun exposure, dietary factors, absorption problems, or certain health conditions. It does not confirm prostate cancer, predict its course, or replace a prostate assessment.

Treatment decisions depend on examination, prostate-specific tests, scans, biopsy findings, cancer extent, and personal health. Depending on the situation, care may include monitoring, surgery, radiotherapy, brachytherapy, or another specialist treatment. Vitamin D cannot choose between these options.

Tell your urology or oncology team about every supplement and medicine. Ask whether a blood test is needed before supplementation and follow the recommended dose. Excess vitamin D can raise calcium and lead to nausea, thirst, weakness, or kidney problems.
