Short answer

Vitamin C and vitamin E can complement a facial skincare routine, but the right formula, gradual use, and sun protection matter more than layering many products.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Vitamin C
Antioxidant support and brighter-looking tone
Vitamin E
Lipid support for the skin barrier
Routine anchor
Moisturiser and daytime sunscreen

What each vitamin does

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant used to support a brighter, more even-looking complexion and to help defend skin from environmental oxidative stress. Vitamin E is a lipid-soluble antioxidant that can support the skin barrier and reduce the dry feeling that some active products cause. Some formulas combine them because their ingredients can support one another, but a combination is not automatically suitable for every face.

A serum is a leave-on product, so its strength, acidity, preservatives, and packaging affect how well it is tolerated. Facial stinging, redness, scaling, or new bumps can signal irritation rather than improvement.

How to use them thoughtfully

Patch-test a new product on a small area first, then introduce it on a limited schedule if your skin remains comfortable. Apply to clean, dry skin, follow with moisturiser, and use daytime sunscreen. If you already use exfoliating acids, retinoids, or acne treatments, add only one new active at a time so you can identify the cause of a reaction.

A product described as a vitamin C serum may be easier to compare when its form, concentration, storage advice, and expiry information are clear. Keep it closed and stored as directed; a marked change in colour, smell, or texture is a reason to replace it.

When to seek care

Stop the new product and seek medical advice if swelling, blistering, severe burning, hives, or breathing symptoms occur. Arrange a dermatology review when persistent facial redness or a rash does not settle after stopping suspected irritants.

Questions for your doctor

Which vitamin C or E formula fits my skin type? Can I use it with my current medicines or acne routine? How should I respond if burning or peeling starts? Is my concern dryness, pigmentation, or another skin condition?
