A thick toenail may be yellow, white, ridged, crumbly, difficult to trim, or separated from the nail bed. Nail fungus is one possible cause, but repeated shoe pressure, injury, ageing changes, and nail psoriasis can produce similar signs. Vicks VapoRub may leave an odour or oily coating, yet that does not establish that an infection is clearing.
