What should you know about vibrio cholera symptoms?

Cholera is an infection of the intestine caused by Vibrio cholerae. Some people have mild illness, while others develop frequent, large-volume watery stools, sometimes described as pale or cloudy. Vomiting may occur and can make fluid loss faster. The main danger is dehydration: thirst, dry mouth, weakness, dizziness, reduced urination, sunken eyes or unusual sleepiness can signal that the body is losing more fluid than it replaces.

Start oral rehydration solution if the person is awake and able to drink. Take small, frequent sips, especially after each loose stool or episode of vomiting. Continue suitable food when tolerated, and avoid relying on plain water alone when losses are heavy because it does not replace salts adequately. Do not prepare rehydration mixtures by guessing amounts. A clinician may arrange testing and antibiotics for selected cases; treatment choices depend on the person and local guidance.

Seek urgent medical care for repeated watery stools, inability to keep fluids down, fainting, confusion, very little urine, marked weakness, or signs of shock such as cold skin and rapid breathing. Babies, older adults, pregnant people and anyone with a serious medical condition can deteriorate quickly. Severe dehydration may require IV Fluid Therapy. Keep drinking oral rehydration solution while arranging help if swallowing is safe.
