What should you know about ventral forearm pain?

Short answer
Ventral forearm pain affects the palm-side forearm and may come from overworked muscles, tendon irritation, nerve symptoms, or an injury.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Surface
- Ventral means the palm-side surface of the forearm.
- Useful clue
- Tingling or numbness may point toward nerve irritation rather than muscle soreness alone.
What the location can suggest
The ventral forearm contains muscles and tendons that bend the wrist and fingers, as well as nerves and blood vessels. Pain after gripping, lifting, typing, or racquet and throwing activities can reflect load-related irritation. Pain near the inner elbow may occur with golfer's elbow, while pain on the outer elbow can occur with tennis elbow; the location alone cannot confirm either condition. Burning, tingling, altered sensation, or pain travelling into the hand makes nerve involvement more relevant.
A clinician will consider the onset, activity, tenderness, grip strength, elbow and wrist movement, and any swelling or bruising. A sudden injury, visible deformity, or inability to use the arm needs a different approach from gradual overuse discomfort.
Practical first steps
Reduce the activity that clearly triggers pain while keeping gentle, comfortable movement. Avoid forceful gripping and repeated wrist bending for now. Cold may soothe a recently irritated area; use a wrapped pack briefly rather than placing ice directly on skin. Support the arm during rest, and return to loading gradually when ordinary movement is easier. Arrange an assessment if symptoms persist, spread, recur, or interfere with work, sleep, or hand use.
When to get help
Seek urgent care after a major blow, fall, crush injury, or sudden snap with marked swelling, deformity, or loss of movement. Prompt assessment is needed for new weakness, persistent numbness, a cold or pale hand, severe pain out of proportion to the injury, or redness and fever. Chest discomfort, breathlessness, or pain with faintness is an emergency rather than an arm problem to monitor.
Questions for your appointment
Ask which structure seems involved, whether your work or sport needs temporary modification, which movements are safe, and whether you need a splint, physiotherapy, or further tests.

Questions people ask
Can ventral forearm pain come from the elbow?
Yes. Tendon problems near the inner or outer elbow can refer discomfort into the forearm, although an examination is needed to identify the source.
Should I stretch a painful forearm?
Gentle movement is reasonable if it stays comfortable, but stop forceful stretching or gripping that increases symptoms.
