What should you know about Ventana immunohistochemistry?

A pathologist examines tissue collected during a biopsy and may use antibodies that attach to selected proteins. A Ventana instrument can apply these reagents, process the slide, and produce a visible stain pattern. The pattern is interpreted with the tissue appearance and other clinical information; it is not a diagnosis by itself.

The markers chosen depend on the question being investigated. They may help classify a tumour, distinguish one type of cell from another, or assess whether a treatment-related target is present. A report may describe a marker as present, absent, weak, strong, or showing a particular distribution.

Ask which tissue sample was tested, which markers were selected, and what each finding means for the diagnosis. Your team may compare the staining with imaging, symptoms, examination findings, and other laboratory results. If the report uses unfamiliar terms, request a plain-language explanation before making decisions.

Seek urgent medical help for heavy bleeding, worsening severe pain, fever, confusion, or breathing difficulty after a biopsy or other procedure. These symptoms need assessment regardless of the staining result.
