Ural for kidney stones: what to know

Ural is a urinary alkalinising product that may reduce burning or discomfort during urination for some people. Kidney stones are solid deposits that can move from the kidney into the ureter, causing cramping flank or abdominal pain, nausea, blood in urine, or difficulty passing urine. Changing urine acidity does not reliably dissolve every stone, and symptom relief can make a serious problem harder to notice.

Dehydration can make concentrated urine more likely and may worsen symptoms, but drinking excessive fluid during severe pain or suspected obstruction is not a substitute for assessment. Stone type, size, location, kidney function, and infection risk guide treatment.

Read the product instructions and check with a pharmacist or clinician before using Ural, especially if you have kidney disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, or take regular medicines. Sip fluids normally unless a clinician has restricted them, and record pain, urine colour, fever, and whether urine is passing. A GP consultation can arrange examination and appropriate testing; an abdominal ultrasound may be considered depending on the presentation.

Seek urgent care for severe or persistent flank pain, fever or chills with urinary symptoms, repeated vomiting, inability to pass urine, faintness, or feeling suddenly very unwell. A blocked urinary tract with infection can damage the kidneys and needs prompt treatment. Do not rely on Ural to cover worsening pain or fever.
