What should you know about under eye chemical peel?

A peel applies a chemical solution to controlled skin layers to loosen surface cells and prompt shedding. Near the eyes, the aim may be to improve selected surface concerns such as uneven tone or texture, not to remove a true eyelid bag or fill a hollow. Glycolic Acid is one material used in peel formulations, but strength, pH, contact time, skin type, and the target area all matter.

Peels are not suitable for every dark under-eye appearance. Pigment conditions such as Melasma, Sun Spots, or Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation may react unpredictably if the skin becomes inflamed. A clinician should also consider recent sun exposure, active irritation, eczema, infection, and previous reactions.

Do not apply an at-home peel close to the eyelid or lash line. Before treatment, disclose retinoids, exfoliants, acne medicines, cold sores, allergies, recent procedures, and any tendency toward dark marks after irritation. Afterward, follow the prescribed cleansing and moisturising plan, avoid rubbing or picking peeling skin, and protect the area from sunlight. Ask when normal products can resume.

Contact the treating clinician for worsening pain, blistering, spreading redness, marked swelling, pus, or darkening that continues rather than settling. Seek urgent eye care if solution enters the eye or you develop eye pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision, or a change in vision.
