Types of Frown Lines

Short answer
Frown lines can be dynamic, static, fine or deep, and their appearance reflects muscle movement, skin elasticity and sun exposure.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Facial movement, skin texture and medical history
What the different types mean
Dynamic lines appear when you bring the eyebrows together, such as during concentration. They may soften when the face relaxes. Static lines remain visible at rest because repeated folding has influenced the skin. Fine lines are shallow creases, while deeper glabellar lines can form between the eyebrows and may extend vertically or horizontally. Dryness, sun exposure, natural ageing and habitual squinting can make texture more noticeable. These changes are a form of facial wrinkles, not a sign that your facial muscles are damaged.
What you can do
Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, sunglasses and a gentle moisturiser can reduce factors that make lines look more pronounced. Avoid rubbing the area and choose skincare that does not sting or cause persistent irritation. A clinician may assess movement and resting lines before discussing options. Botulinum toxin injection can relax selected muscles that create dynamic lines. Dermal fillers may be considered for carefully selected static depressions, but the area between the eyebrows needs experienced assessment because injection risks differ by location. Results, suitability and aftercare depend on your skin and medical history.
When to seek care
Arrange a clinical review if a line changes quickly, follows an injury, or is accompanied by a new drooping eyelid, facial weakness, numbness, severe headache or vision change. Seek urgent medical help for sudden facial weakness or vision symptoms. For cosmetic concerns, book an assessment if the crease is persistently irritated, scaly or bleeding, since a skin problem can resemble an ordinary wrinkle.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your lines are mainly movement-related or present at rest, which muscle or skin factors contribute, and whether your medicines or eye conditions affect treatment choices. Ask how long effects may last, what aftercare is needed, and which warning signs should prompt a review.

Questions people ask
Are frown lines the same as all wrinkles?
No. Frown lines are concentrated around the glabella and eyebrows, while wrinkles can occur across many facial areas.
Can skincare remove deep frown lines?
Skincare can support hydration and sun protection, but established movement-related or deep lines may need a clinician-led option.
