Types of fillers for cheeks: what to know

Cheek augmentation aims to restore lost midface volume, improve contour or support a transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. Hyaluronic acid filler is a commonly discussed option because products can be selected with different structures for projection or softer blending. The choice depends on skin thickness, facial movement, existing asymmetry, desired change and the clinician’s assessment. A fuller cheek is not always the right goal; proportion and a natural transition matter more than adding volume everywhere.

Have the treatment area assessed in motion and at rest, and share previous filler, dental work, allergies, skin conditions and medicines that affect bleeding. Ask for the product name, injection plan and aftercare instructions. Swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary unevenness can occur. Avoid pressing or massaging the area unless instructed, and postpone strenuous activity or heat exposure according to the practitioner’s advice. Follow-up helps distinguish normal settling from a problem needing treatment.

Seek urgent medical attention for unusual or severe pain, pale or dusky skin, rapidly increasing swelling, new weakness, confusion or any vision change after filler. Contact the injector promptly for worsening redness, warmth, pus or a firm area that is not settling. Fast assessment is essential when blood flow or vision may be affected.

Ask which filler material and product are proposed, where it will be placed, whether it can be dissolved or revised, what risks apply near the eye and nose, and who to contact outside clinic hours.
