Treatment for Chicken Skin Under the Eyes

The phrase chicken skin usually describes tiny rough bumps around hair follicles. Keratosis pilaris commonly affects the upper arms and cheeks, but bumps under the eyes are not automatically keratosis pilaris. Folliculitis, milia, irritation, or another surface change can look similar.

The eye area is easily irritated, and strong exfoliants or retinoid products can cause burning and swelling if applied too close to the eyelids. A clinician can distinguish a follicle-related rash from a small cyst or a reaction to skincare.

Pause scrubs, picking, fragranced products, and acids near the bumps. Wash with a mild cleanser, apply a plain moisturiser suitable for the eye area, and keep hair and makeup products from rubbing onto the skin. Do not squeeze or lance a bump beside the eye.

If the bumps persist, spread, itch, or become inflamed, arrange a dermatology assessment. Treatment depends on the diagnosis; a plan for Keratosis Pilaris is not necessarily suitable for eyelid skin.

Seek prompt medical care for eyelid swelling, eye pain, vision change, marked redness, pus, or fever. Arrange an appointment for a firm bump that persists, repeatedly returns, or changes despite gentle care.

Ask what the bumps are, whether an ingredient may be irritating the area, which products are safe near the eyelid margin, and whether removal or prescription treatment is appropriate.
