Treating a Yeast Rash Under the Breasts

The warm, moist fold beneath the breast can become irritated where skin touches skin. Yeast may contribute to a red, sore or itchy rash, sometimes with small spots just beyond the main area. Similar appearances can come from friction, contact dermatitis, heat rash, psoriasis or ringworm, so appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, then pat the fold fully dry. Choose a breathable, well-fitting bra and change damp clothing promptly. Avoid scrubbing, fragranced products and steroid creams unless a clinician has advised them; steroids can alter some rashes. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether a topical antifungal is suitable and how long to use it.

Arrange medical advice if the area is rapidly spreading, very painful, cracked, oozing, foul-smelling or associated with fever. Seek assessment if it does not begin improving with appropriate care, keeps returning, or the diagnosis is uncertain. People with diabetes, reduced immunity or recent antibiotic use may need earlier review.
