Tranexamic acid reduces the breakdown of clots where bleeding is occurring. Depending on the formulation and clinical reason, it may be used for heavy menstrual bleeding or other selected bleeding problems. It does not treat every cause of bleeding and does not work as a general pain medicine. A brand name can cover different forms, so check the packaging and prescription rather than relying on a remembered name.

Take the exact product and schedule prescribed; do not swap tablets for a topical product or use another person’s medicine. Share your history of blood clots, kidney disease, colour-vision problems, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and current medicines. For menstrual bleeding, record flow, clots, pain, and dizziness. If the pattern is new, between periods, or after sex, arrange assessment for the cause rather than repeatedly self-treating.

Get emergency help for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, coughing blood, one-sided leg pain or swelling, or sudden vision changes. Seek prompt advice for severe bleeding, faintness, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, a widespread rash, or worsening symptoms. Stop and seek guidance if you suspect a serious reaction.
