Short answer
Tonsillitis self care focuses on fluids, rest, soothing the throat and watching for signs that need medical assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What tonsillitis means
Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils at the back of the throat. It may occur with a sore throat, fever, swollen glands or earache. Viruses are a common cause, while some cases are linked to bacteria such as those causing Strep Throat. A symptom does not by itself identify the cause, so a clinician may consider your examination and overall illness.
Helpful steps at home
Sip water or other suitable fluids regularly, and choose cool or warm drinks according to what feels comfortable. Soft foods can be easier to swallow. Rest your voice and avoid cigarette smoke or other throat irritants. Follow the label for any age-appropriate pain or fever medicine, and check with a pharmacist if you take other medicines or have a long-term condition. Do not share utensils, cups or towels while you are unwell, and wash your hands often.
When to seek care
Arrange a GP Consultation if symptoms are severe, keep returning, interfere with drinking, or do not begin to settle. Seek urgent help if you struggle to breathe, cannot swallow saliva, become unable to drink, develop marked one-sided throat swelling, or feel rapidly worse. A persistent high fever, dehydration symptoms, or significant Earache also deserves prompt medical advice.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether an examination or throat test is useful, which symptom medicines suit you, and whether Antibiotic Treatment is appropriate for the suspected cause.

Questions people ask
Can I manage tonsillitis at home?
Milder illness may improve with fluids, rest and symptom relief, but worsening symptoms or difficulty drinking needs clinical advice.
Should I use antibiotics for every sore throat?
No. Antibiotics help selected bacterial infections and are not useful for viral illness; a clinician can guide the decision.
