Tinea versicolor in Black skin: what to know

Tinea versicolor is a superficial yeast-related condition, not a sign of poor hygiene. On richly pigmented skin, contrast between affected and unaffected areas can be striking. Patches may be lighter, darker, or pink-brown, and a fine scale can become easier to see when the skin is gently rubbed. Itch may be mild or absent. Use the recommended antifungal consistently and keep sweaty areas cool and dry. Do not scrub to remove scale or apply lightening products before the diagnosis is settled.
