What should you know about throat rash symptoms?

Redness, itching, scaling, small bumps, or a burning feeling may follow a new fragrance, necklace, fabric, cosmetic, or skin product. Atopic Dermatitis can cause dry, itchy, inflamed skin, while Contact Dermatitis often follows contact with an irritant or allergen. Heat Rash tends to affect warm, sweaty skin. Ringworm can form a scaly expanding edge, and Scabies often causes intense itching that may be worse at night.

Psoriasis may produce well-defined scaly areas. Intertrigo can develop where skin rubs and stays moist, while Drug Rash may appear after starting or changing a medicine. The same-looking rash can have different causes, so distribution and timing matter.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and use a fragrance-free moisturiser. Stop any newly introduced product that touches the area, avoid scratching, and choose loose breathable clothing. Keep the skin cool and dry, but do not apply steroid, antifungal, or medicated creams without guidance when the cause is unclear.

Arrange a clinical review if the rash persists, spreads, recurs, becomes painful, or develops scaling, crusting, or oozing. Bring a list of medicines and products used near the throat, including when each was started.

Get emergency help for a rash with swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat; wheezing; faintness; or difficulty breathing or swallowing. Seek urgent medical advice for a rapidly spreading rash, blistering, skin peeling, fever, marked tenderness, or a rash involving the eyes or mouth, especially after a new medicine.

Ask whether the rash pattern fits Contact Dermatitis, infection, or another condition; whether any medicine or product should be stopped; and whether testing or a skin sample is needed. Ask which treatment is suitable for the sensitive throat area and how to prevent recurrence.
