What should you know about thick cradle cap adults?

Seborrhoeic dermatitis can produce greasy or dry flakes that cling to the scalp, hairline, eyebrows, ears, or sides of the nose. A thick adherent layer may become tender if it is scratched. Psoriasis can form sharply defined plaques with heavier scale, while a fungal infection may cause broken hairs, patches, or soreness. Adult scalp scale is not the same diagnosis as infant cradle cap simply because the surface looks alike.

Loosen scale gradually rather than picking or scraping it. A clinician may recommend a suitable emollient to soften adherent scale, followed by gentle washing. Seek earlier care for pus, crusting with worsening pain, marked redness, patchy hair loss, or tender swollen areas.
