Temperature and a Rash on the Body

Sweat and trapped heat can block pores and produce small itchy bumps, especially in covered or skin-fold areas. Friction and moisture may contribute to intertrigo. A new soap, fabric, plant, or cosmetic can cause contact dermatitis, while atopic dermatitis may flare with heat and sweating.

Other patterns include psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, and drug rash. A true fever, chills, sore throat, cough, stomach symptoms, recent travel, sick contact, or a newly started medicine changes the concern. The appearance, timing, distribution, and associated symptoms are more useful than temperature alone.

Move to a cool environment, wear loose breathable clothing, rinse away possible irritants, and keep affected skin clean and dry. Avoid scratching and do not apply a strong steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal product unless a clinician has advised it for that pattern. Record when the rash began and photograph changes in consistent lighting.

A clinician can assess whether the rash fits heat rash, dermatitis, infection, or a medicine reaction. If a prescription may be involved, contact the prescriber before changing it unless emergency symptoms are present.

Seek urgent care for a rapidly spreading rash, purple or bruise-like spots, blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, confusion, stiff neck, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or involvement of the eyes or mouth. A fever with a new rash, especially after starting a medicine, needs prompt medical assessment.

Tell the clinician when the rash and temperature change began, where it started, what it looks and feels like, and which products or medicines came first. Ask whether the pattern needs testing, how to relieve itching safely, and which warning signs should trigger reassessment.
