What should you know about telmisartan skin rash?

Describe when the rash began compared with starting telmisartan or changing its dose, where it appeared, and whether it is spreading. Note itching, pain, scaling, blisters, fever, mouth sores or facial swelling. A Drug Rash may be considered, but contact with a new product, heat, Atopic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Ringworm, Scabies or Intertrigo can produce different patterns that need different care. Do not assume the medicine is the cause based on appearance alone.

Contact the prescriber or pharmacist promptly for advice and provide a full list of medicines, supplements and recent products. Do not stop telmisartan or substitute another blood-pressure medicine without medical guidance unless emergency clinicians instruct you to do so. Use bland, fragrance-free skincare, avoid scratching and take clear photographs to document change. Avoid applying a new steroid, antibiotic or antifungal product until the likely cause has been assessed.

Seek emergency help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue or face, faintness, widespread blistering, peeling skin, severe tenderness, mouth or eye involvement, or a rash with fever and feeling very unwell. These signs can indicate a serious reaction. A rapidly spreading rash also deserves urgent medical review, even without breathing symptoms.
