Telfast for a runny nose: what to know

A runny nose can accompany allergic rhinitis, including reactions to house dust mites or pets. It can also occur with a common cold, influenza, COVID-19 or sinusitis. The pattern matters: itching, repeated sneezing and symptoms after a trigger support an allergy pattern, while sore throat, cough or feeling feverish may suggest infection. Telfast does not remove the trigger and does not replace testing or treatment when another illness is suspected.

Follow the product label or a clinician's directions, and check with a pharmacist before combining it with another antihistamine or a cold remedy. Avoid taking it with fruit juice if the label advises separation, because this can affect absorption. Reduce exposure to a known trigger, rinse the nose with a suitable saline preparation, and drink fluids. If symptoms keep returning, record triggers and discuss a longer-term plan.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness or a rapidly worsening reaction. Arrange medical review if the discharge is persistent, one-sided, bloody, associated with facial pain, or accompanied by significant illness. A clinician can distinguish allergy from infection and check whether another medicine or condition is contributing.
