TCA peel under the eyes: what to know

A TCA application may be discussed for fine lines, uneven texture or selected discoloration, but under-eye darkness can also come from shadowing, visible vessels, allergies, irritation or facial structure. A peel cannot correct every cause. The clinician must assess the lower eyelid, nearby eye surface and whether the concern is actually suitable for chemical treatment.

Possible reactions include stinging, swelling, redness, scaling and pigment change. Accidental eye exposure is an emergency. Irritation may also worsen dryness or rubbing, while inflammation can leave darker or lighter areas, particularly in pigment-prone skin.

Choose a clinician familiar with periocular procedures and ask exactly how the eye will be shielded. Mention contact lenses, dry eye, eczema, allergies, recent tanning, cold sores and every product used around the eyes. Avoid self-applying TCA or using strong exfoliants close to the eyelids.

Afterward, use only the prescribed or recommended gentle care. Do not rub, peel flakes or apply makeup and active products until advised. Keep sunlight away from healing skin with appropriate protection, and follow instructions about compresses or ointment.

Rinse the eye with clean running water and obtain urgent medical help if TCA enters the eye, or if there is eye pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity or difficulty opening the eye. Contact the clinic for worsening eyelid swelling, severe pain, spreading redness, discharge or delayed healing.
