A useful before photograph shows the nose clean, evenly lit and viewed from the same angle as later photographs. The clinician may record scar depth, edges, skin tone and nearby marks. After treatment, a spot can look more prominent before it looks smoother: whitening may be followed by redness, a dark crust and peeling.

Once the surface has recovered, the depression may catch less shadow or feel less sharply edged. Changes vary between scars, and a nose with several scar types may show mixed results. A photograph cannot predict your response because lighting, camera distance and temporary colour changes alter appearance. The clinician may wait through healing before discussing further sessions.

Ask the clinic to explain when photographs should be taken and what lighting to use. Follow the prescribed cleansing and protection routine, leave crusts alone, and avoid comparing the area during the most inflamed stage. Protect the nose from sunlight and pause irritating products until cleared.

Keep a note of pain, swelling and any colour change. Bring the same skincare list to review so the clinician can distinguish treatment healing from irritation or a new breakout. Do not copy an online photo’s treatment plan; the scar pattern and skin response may be different.

Call promptly if swelling, heat, redness or pain increases, or if pus, odour, fever, blistering or persistent bleeding develops. Get urgent help for swelling near the eye with vision changes, breathing difficulty or rapidly worsening facial swelling. A lasting or spreading dark patch also needs clinical assessment.

Ask which changes are expected each healing stage, when the comparison photograph should be taken, how skin tone affects pigment risk, and what alternative options exist if a scar remains deep after healing.
