What should you know about a tamoxifen PCT cycle?

PCT means post-cycle therapy. In bodybuilding discussions, it usually refers to medicines taken after anabolic-androgenic steroid use in an attempt to support recovery of the body's own reproductive hormone signalling. Tamoxifen blocks oestrogen receptors in some tissues; it does not remove steroids from the body or guarantee restoration of testosterone production. Its approved oncology uses are different, including selected breast cancer treatment and risk reduction. Using tablets obtained without a prescription can conceal a separate hormonal, liver, or testicular problem.

Tamoxifen can have clinically significant adverse effects, including blood clots, stroke-like symptoms, changes in vision, and liver problems. It may also interact with other medicines. A plan copied from an online source may be unsuitable because the steroid used, amount, duration, existing health conditions, and laboratory results all change the risk.

Do not start, extend, or restart tamoxifen without a prescriber who knows about the steroid or supplement use. Arrange a medical review and give an accurate list of every product, when it was last used, and any symptoms such as reduced libido, erectile difficulty, breast tenderness, mood change, or testicular change. The clinician may decide that examination, blood tests, medication review, or referral to an endocrinologist is appropriate. Do not use tamoxifen to manage a breast lump or other cancer concern without an oncology assessment.

Keep the medicine in its original labelled packaging and follow the prescribed instructions if it has been prescribed for you. Avoid adding hormone products or supplements while the cause of symptoms is being assessed.

Seek emergency help for sudden chest pain, breathlessness, coughing blood, one-sided leg swelling or pain, sudden weakness, trouble speaking, or a severe new headache. Contact a clinician promptly for new or worsening vision changes, unusual vaginal bleeding, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, or a painful breast change. These symptoms need assessment whether or not tamoxifen has been taken.
