Swollen lip after peeling skin off: what to know

Removing a flake or scab can create tiny breaks in the lip barrier. The exposed area may sting, swell, crack, or bleed, especially after contact with saliva, wind, sun, spicy food, or fragranced products. Repeated peeling can delay healing and introduce bacteria. Dryness may follow sun exposure or irritation; recurring scale elsewhere can also occur with inflammatory skin conditions.
