What should you know about sweat hives rash?

Hives are raised, pale or pink patches that can join together, shift position and fade while new welts appear elsewhere. They may follow exercise, a hot room, a hot shower, fever or strong emotion. The skin can itch intensely, and the appearance may change quickly.

Hives are a condition; itchy skin or a skin rash are symptoms that can have many causes. Deeper swelling of the lips, eyelids, tongue or throat is called Angioedema and needs particular attention.

Move to a cooler place, pause strenuous activity and use a cool compress over itchy areas. Wear loose clothing and avoid rubbing or scratching. Keep a note of heat, exercise, foods, medicines and products present before each episode; this can help a clinician identify a pattern.

A clinician or pharmacist may discuss an oral antihistamine for suitable people. Do not combine medicines or use someone else’s prescription. Ask about drowsiness, other medicines and whether a different plan is needed if episodes recur.

Call emergency services immediately for trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, wheezing, or difficulty swallowing. Seek medical advice soon for repeated episodes, extensive skin swelling, or hives that persist or return without a clear trigger.
