What should you know about superficial chemical peel?

A superficial peel loosens cells in the outermost skin layer. The solution may contain an acid such as [Glycolic Acid](/materials/glycolic-acid/), although the strength, contact time, and formula vary. It may be considered for uneven texture, mild blemish-related congestion, or uneven colour. It is not suitable for every rash or pigmentation concern: [Acne](/conditions/acne/), [Melasma](/conditions/melasma/), [Sun Spots](/conditions/sun-spots/), and [Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation](/conditions/post-inflammatory-hyperpigmentation/) need individual assessment.

Before treatment, tell the clinician about sensitive skin, active eczema, cold sores, recent waxing, medicines, and previous reactions. Afterward, expect possible redness, tightness, dryness, or peeling; do not pick flaking skin.
